Build the Plane as You Fly It

"Alright Wilbur" Orville proclaimed, "Push me off this cliff" "But, Orville..." "Just do it!" Do you ever wonder what the dialogue between Orville and Wilbur Wright may have been while they were testing their theories of lift and drag? More famously know as the Wright brothers, this duo is credited for discovering flight. They had to trust the fate of their lives to scientific applications. Talk about taking a risk, huh? Sometimes, you gotta just jump These brave thinkers weren't absolutely certain that their theories would hold true. Sure, they did their dilligence. They refered to the science and mitigated the risk of failure through their design. But, they still put life and limb on the line for the sake of ground breaking, world changing, innovation. Entrepreneurs should strive to be like Wilbur and Orville. We've got a thought, a theory or hypothesis that we think will work. Numbers have been crunched, data has been analyzed. We've studied the angles and the principles, but, there's still this level of uncertainty around whether or not it's actually going to work. In these moments, sometimes, you just have to jump off the cliff. Even if that means rebuilding the plane in a crash and burn scenario. You can, build it, as you fly it As you manage your business, you'll no doubt, run into several "to jump or not" scenarios. Decisions like product design, marketing campaigns, hiring and staffing, operational logistics, all follow your very first important decision - should I even do this? It's important to remember that every decision you make won't be "correct". You'll fail at times. You'll crash just like the Wright Brothers.

But, if Orville and Wilbur decided to call it quits after their first, second, even third flight failed, they would have never achieved what they did. Which was a discovery that advanced mankind. They are the literal example of an idea all entrepreneurs should practice: build the plane as you fly it. Meaning, they weren't afraid to try new things, to jump. And if they failed, they would iterate upon their model based on what they've learned. They used those failures as opportunities to progress forward, and ultimately succeed. Every business decision you make, regardless of the amount of research you've done and assurance you have, has the potential to fail. So, naturally, there will always be some percentage, small or large, of doubt in your mind. Embrace that doubt, toe the edge of the cliff, and jump. Have confidence knowing that if you fail, you can rebuild. Now, equipped with the knowledge you've gained. One day, you'll jump and succeed. And when that day comes?...oh, brother! #scratchmade #scrathmadetips #leader #ceo #motivation #motivator #entrepreneur #technopreneur #leadership #startup #smallbiz #smallbusiness #smallbusinesssales #dreams #hustle #passion #mentoring #coaching #inspire #ambition #beyourownboss #businesspassion #business
